Every living creature on earth dies alone...

I promise that one day everything's going to be better for you...
It's been two days since I saw this film and I can't stop thinking about it! What annoys me the most is the fact that I have so many different hypotheses about it and they all seem not good enough. And before you know it, I end up as schizophrenic as Donnie himself! And this whole...Frank just gives me the creeps. But I'm beginning to understand one thing...when the action approaches the climax, Deus ex machina gets into the picture. Well, no surprises here, since it's the only "less" illogic way of getting things more or less cleared up. But I've got to see it once more, otherwise I will go insane:) I guess I don't have to mention the great Jake Gyllenhaal who looks so innocent that when he's possessed by the visions and hallucinations, his face gets...devilish! It's incredible.
Since Donnie Darko certainly is not for everybody, the people I know will love it. Just prepare for complete incomprehension of the story. And hey...don't fear the giant rabbit...

It is a good movie, and the story is, in my view, hard to understand only because of how sad it is.

Sounds like you're all incapable of understanding the movie. It was really obvious, but just out of grasp of most people... even those who profess to love the movie do not understand it. It is a movie about divine intervention. It was meant to be left open ended and open for some personal interpretation, although there is a clear intention of an answer. It's just left for you to find it on your own and personalize it. If you listen to the director's commentary, it makes everything quite obvious since you lack the capability of putting it together yourself.

See, I have the Book, which has an interview with Richard Kelly, the director. He says, in a way, no one is really suposed to understand it. There is no 100% correct way to explain Donnie Darko. It vaires with the reader/watcher. It's suposed to make you think... which, in my opinion, it does greatly.
